Sean on 24 Dec : 17:10 | Identifying the team We’ve been asked for assistance identifying the stalwart gentlemen you see in the picture below. The photo was taken approx 1937 – 1940. ![]() Back row, 3rd from the left is Paddy Ruane from Carnmore, Galway, who was for more than 30 years, Treasurer of the Galway Hurling Board. He was also an elected Sinn Fein member of Galway Co. Council. We need help identifying others in this photograph. From enquiries made the following people were in New Zealand at that time: Paddy Ruane's two uncles, James Ruane - an Auckland policeman and Jack Ruane who worked for the telephone company there. Also in New Zealand at that time were, the two Sheridan's from Tónrua, two Killilea's from Caherlea, William and Ned Corcoran from Lydican, John Burke from Parkmore and Davy Corcoran from Carrabrowne. If you know someone who might know please forward this to them, if possible. Sean on 12 May : 21:04 | Ag Taisteal le Tarlach sa Nua Shéalainn A Cháirde,I am hoping to write a book on New Zealand along the same lines as the book I wrote on Japan. I'm trying to set up a website at the minute so if anyone wants to check it out it's www.agtaistealletarlach.com I am hoping to get back to New Zealand to collect material for this book but I don't know if I will have saved enough for the trip as it will be very costly. If anyone has any suggestions that for things that should be included please send them to me and if anyone knows of anyone who wouldn't mind recording wav files in Maori for words that would be in the book so that I could load them up on the website later that would be great. I will need help with information on schooling in New Zealand and the likes as well. Submitted by Laoise Sean on 02 Mar : 08:30 | |
